The Fig Tree Pocket Parents & Citizens Association
The Parents & Citizens Association at Fig Tree Pocket State School is a vital and active part of the school community. All parents are welcome to be a member of the P&C. This is done by submitting a completed membership form [form] prior to the P&C AGM in February each year or to any general P&C meeting through the year.
Please note that also on this form is the box to tick regarding being a volunteer at the school. If you intend to volunteer in any capacity at the school (classroom help, P&C duties, tuckshop, etc) it is most important that this box is ticked and the form submitted as this then gives you insurance coverage under the P&C’s policy in the event of accident/injury.
P&C meetings are held on the last Tuesday of each month during term time and everyone is welcome. Tea/coffee and biscuits are available from 7:15pm with the meeting starting at 7:30pm and usually finishing by 9:00pm. The P&C is your voice within the school and the meetings are informal enough that everyone can contribute.

A most important but not only role of the P&C is to actively raise funds for the school. Each year the P&C contributes a significant sum directly to the school budget. This allows all the ‘extras’ for our children within the curriculum and as has been commented on in the past as ‘making the difference between a good school and a great school’. The balance of the P&C funds is spent on many projects big and small within the school:-
- Cubberla Hall is a past project of the P&C’s that was paid off over a number of years.
- The Year 4-7 undercover eating area, the multi-court and 2nd tennis court, the new cricket nets and air conditioning of the entire school are more recent major projects.
- Each year each class is given $300 to spend on an enrichment program within the classroom.
This year we are continuing a levy instead of fundraising. It is a suggested amount of $50 per family per term. This will allow us to continue to have social events to maintain the great community spirit we have, without all the hard work.
Trading Shops
The P&C also operates the Trading shops (Tuckshop, Uniform Shop & Bookshop) under a separate sub-committee. This also raises a good portion of the income for the year.[More Information]
Other Events
Various other smaller events are held thru the year:
- Mother’s day and Father’s day stalls
- Family Fun Day
- Discos for the children
- Sausage sizzles if we have any elections on
- Trivia nights and the like
OSHC
As a separate service the P&C also operates the Outside School Hours Care. OSHC is run on a user pays basis and any ‘profit’ made is put back in to OSHC facilities, etc.
