YEAR 7

Our yearly programme includes a number of high interest topics which provided a wide variety of learning opportunities. As teachers, our aim in Year 7 is to enable students to develop leadership skills, have every child reach their full potential and ensure our students are well prepared for secondary school.

Term 1 and Term 2

Year 7 Overview for Term 2

Week 1
Mini unit on Anzac Day culminating in a presentation on Assembly in week2.

Week 2
Read Big Book “From Universe to Atom.” Fill in Mind Map of general information on our galaxy.
View video “Our Solar System” by Classroom video.
Use Rigby BLM “The Planets” & have children fill in information on each of the planets.
Divide into groups & give group a planet to research. Final presentation to be made using Power Point.

Week 3
Group work: Research planet – Power Point
        Space Flight – Fact versus Fiction
        Space Travel – A History
        Maths – Space / Time Travel
        Reading Comprehension – Suiting up for Space (Resource book p47 )

Week 4
Group work continued.
Visit to Planetarium7 & follow up activities

Week 5
Group work / projects to be completed.
Power Point Presentations to be made to the class. Each to be assessed by class teacher.
Listen to / compare music from 2001 A Space Odyssey & other science fiction music.    

Week 6
Literature study of short stories from Longmans, “Lost in Space” & “Aliens.”
Act out a favourite scene from a short story.
Introduce Science Fiction genre.
Plan for Science Fiction narrative.
Plan illustrations for Science Fiction narrative.

Week 7
PMI chart on dollars spent on Space Exploration.
Work on narrative & illustrations.

Week 8
Work on narrative & illustrations.

Week 9     Bridges

Week 10    Bridges

The Mathematics programme for Term 2 will continue as per the Go Maths text.
We trust your child will have an interesting & productive term.
